2024 China Marine Economic Expo opens

On October 31, the 2024 China Marine Economic Expo and Shenzhen International Ocean Week with the theme of “Open Cooperation and Shared Opportunities” opened. Sun Shuxian, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Director of the State Oceanic Administration, Zhang Shaokang, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, Qin Weizhong, Mayor of Shenzhen, Karpelis, Ambassador of Greece to China, and David Wein, Ambassador of Norway to China, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

The Ministry of Natural Resources will adhere to the coordinated development of land and sea, and the harmony between man and sea, accelerate the construction of marine ecological civilization, and build a large pattern of protection and governance from the top of the mountain to the sea; strengthen the key core technology research in the marine field, promote the accelerated formation of new quality productivity in the marine field, build a modern marine industrial system, and actively cultivate and develop strategic emerging industries such as marine renewable energy; optimize the development layout of marine-related regions, support the construction of marine strong provinces and modern marine cities, accelerate the construction of national marine economic development demonstration zones, and expand and strengthen the marine economy.

Zhang Shaokang said that we should further strengthen the coordination of land and sea, mutual assistance between mountains and sea, and linkage between ports, industries and cities, expand, strengthen and optimize the modern marine industry, continuously promote the construction of marine ecological civilization, and continuously enhance the core competitiveness of marine economy, so as to inject strong “blue power” into the reconstruction of a new Guangdong. The Marine Expo has built a “big stage” for marine economic exchanges and cooperation. We hope that everyone can fully display the results of innovation through this platform, seize blue opportunities in a wider field and at a higher level, deepen exchanges and cooperation, and work together to create a bright future for the development of marine economy.

Qin Weizhong said that we should give full play to the role of the Marine Expo platform as a link, adhere to the scientific and technological innovation to lead the construction of the modern marine industrial system, cultivate and strengthen the new quality of marine productivity, promote the high-quality development of the marine economy, comprehensively strengthen the protection of the marine ecological environment, accelerate the creation of a global marine center city, actively promote international marine exchanges and cooperation, and strive to make new and greater contributions to the development of the global marine cause and the construction of a community with a shared future for the ocean.

Karpelis and Dai Weien said in their speeches that the Marine Expo has built a platform for open cooperation, win-win and sharing, and look forward to using this platform to further strengthen pragmatic cooperation in areas such as marine transportation, jointly create a sustainable blue economy, and strive to achieve a greener and smarter future.

The 2024 China Marine Economic Development Index was also released at the meeting, and the National Marine Comprehensive Test Field (Zhuhai) was unveiled.

It is reported that the 2024 China Marine Expo will set up a main exhibition hall and a special exhibition area, hold 1+N forums and multiple supporting activities, and more than 400 key marine enterprises, institutions and organizations at home and abroad have signed up to participate in the exhibition. The 2024 Shenzhen Ocean Week, which opened simultaneously, will be themed “One Ocean, One Dream” and will hold more than 100 public events to show the blue charm of Shenzhen’s modern marine city life.

Salman, Secretary-General of the Indian Ocean Rim Cooperation Alliance, Dai Jintao, leader of Shenzhen, and Lu Wenpeng, Secretary-General of the Municipal Government, attended the event.
